Coi Leray – Players
Players helped Coi Leray reach the top of the Emerging Artists Chart.
Coi Leray, a highly regarded female fast-rising singer, and songwriter, displayed her astounding brand-new popular hit song titled “Prayer.”
Thanks to the success of her single “Players,” Coi Leray ascends to No. 1 on Billboard’s Emerging Artists chart (dated February 18), overtaking all other emerging acts for the first time in the United States.
According to laminate, the song, which was published in November by Uptown/Republic Records, climbs 38-28 in its sixth week on the Billboard Hot 100 after receiving 29.1 million radio airplay audience impressions (up 20%), 9.4 million U.S. streaming (up 23%), and 5,000 downloads sold (up 2%).
The song was Leray’s fourth Hot 100 entry, following “No More Parties” with Lil Durk (No. 26 peak in 2021), “Huge Purr (Prrdd)” with Pooh Shiesty (No. 69, 2021), and “Blick Blick!,” featuring Nicki Minaj (No. 37, 2022).
“Players” also maintains its position at No. 4 on the list of the Hot Rap Tracks and moves up to No. 10 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs. Furthermore, it moves up 6-4 on Rap Airplay, 9-6 on Rhythmic Airplay, remains at its No. 11 peak on Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay and R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay, and moves up 28-23 on Pop Airplay.
Following her win for best new artist at the Grammy Awards on February 5, Samara Joy, who is immediately behind Leray, increases by 45-2 in the Emerging Artists category. For the first time, Joy’s 2022 album Linger Awhile tops the Jazz Albums, Traditional Jazz Albums, and Heatseekers Albums charts. It also makes its Billboard 200 debut at No. 158. Her self-titled 2021 album also makes its debut at No. 7 on the Jazz Albums and Traditional Jazz Albums charts.
Since Esperanza Spalding in 2011, Joy is the first jazz group to win the Grammy Award for Best New Artist.
The Billboard Emerging Artists chart uses the same methodology as the comprehensive Billboard Artist 100 to rank the week’s most well-liked new musicians. This chart counts artist activity across several Billboard charts, including the Hot 100, Billboard 200, and the Social 50. Each week, the top acts are listed in The Artist 100. However, acts that have reached the top 25 of the Hot 100 or Billboard 200, as well as musicians who have achieved two or more top 10s on Billboard’s “Hot” single genre charts and/or consumption-based “Top” album genre rankings, are not included on the Emerging Artists list.
